Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant
JOB TITLE: Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant. To work on-site at two New Brunswick, NJ Hospitals and our Monroe NJ and Somerset NJ offices. Cardiology experience preferred. Salary based on level of cardiac experience.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for the management of health problems and the coordination of health care for MCA patients in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and the nursing standard of care. Patient care is conducted in collaboration with MCA physicians and other health care team members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assessment of health status, diagnosis, development of plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan and evaluation of patient status using protocols as guideline
- Function independently to perform appropriate history and physical for complex acute, critical and chronically ill cardiac patients in office, hospital and rehab facilities
- Document all observations, recommendations, education completely with every patient contact
- Provide care in a safe, comfortable and private environment
- Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests (including lab work)
- Adjust INR per protocol
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment modalities
- Admit/discharge patients from hospitals. Dictate summary or H&P.
- Provide patient and family member’s education concerning prescribed medications, disease, activity restrictions and diet following HIPAA guidelines
- Triage/review incoming phone calls/texts/pages and appropriately respond in a timely, efficient and professional manner
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for professional practice and continued professional growth. Exhibit leadership skills; initiative, accountability, responsibility, appropriate judgment and decision making.
- Communicate in a professional, attentive and individualized manner in every encounter
- Provide emergency care if need arises using Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned or as needed including but not limited to: assisting in intravenous insertion, flu vaccine administration or emergency management with physician
EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. BSN or Master's degree preferred. Graduate of accredited NP/PA program. Current APN or PA licensure. Current NP/PA certification. Current CDS/DEA. Current ACLS/BLS
EXPERIENCE: Prefers minimum 5 years acute care (ER/ICU/CCU/CTICU/telemetry/cath lab) experience. Prefers minimum 5 years RN experience. One year APN/PA experience preferred.
REQUIREMENTS: Maintain current APN/PA license. Maintain current ACLS/BLS. Participate in continuing education credits to maintain APN/PA license. Knowledge of tests performed in MCA and interpretation of the results based on physician recommendations. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of emergency protocol and to react calmly and effectively in those situations.Adherence to all policies and procedures, including confidentiality, safety, performance, attendance, punctuality, and personal grooming and appearance. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to speak and write in a professional, courteous, and concise manner. Accept and utilize feedback and constructive criticism.
SKILLS:

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting, standing, walking, and driving to medical offices, rehabilitation facilities, and hospitals; normal vision, speaking, and hearing; hand dexterity for telephone use, computer use, physical assessment, patient assistance and lifting.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Medical office environment, rehabilitation facilities, and hospital settings. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
